Are Energy Drinks Bad?

Energy drinks popularity has exploded by taking advantage of our busy lifestyles and promising us energy without giving us much information on it’s dangers. First of all, not all energy drinks are bad! And If consumed in moderation, energy drinks can have almost no serious effect on our bodies. However, most people don’t drink energy drinks in moderation, and sometimes consume energy drinks with alcohol which is quite dangerous.

Energy Drinks Ingredients

It’s important to understand all the key ingredients which go into these drinks. One of the key ingredients in almost any energy drink is caffeine. Energy drinks contain almost twice the caffeine found in carbonated soda drinks and about the same amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee. The main difference between coffee and energy drinks is the way in which they are consumed, energy drinks are consumed much quicker then coffee, giving us large doses of caffeine very quickly. Consuming an excessive amount of caffeine can be harmful to you health and could cause some serious side effects such as increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, insomnia, nervousness, anxiety, tremors, and headaches. Caffeine can also increase production of stomach acid and this could lead to ulcers.

If you’ve every checked the back of a energy drink you’ll notice that the drinks are not evaluated by the FDA… which gives us almost no way to be positive that mixing these drinks with other chemicals won’t be harmful. In other words, when we drink energy drinks were basically playing Russian Roulette with our bodies.

Mixing Alcohol and Energy Drinks

Alcohol and energy drinks are often mixed or consumed after one another at bars and parties across the globe and its become a popular method of allowing the consumer to party longer as well as making the individual feel as if he is not as intoxicated as he really is.

Most people don’t realize how dangerous this kind of behavior can be. Both alcohol and energy drinks are notorious for dehydrating the body and if enough fluids are not consumed, you could dehydrate quite easily. However, the most serious danger which comes with mixing alcohol and energy drinks is that the energy drink will make you feel as if your not as intoxicated as your really are, making you feel its okay to have more alcohol. Forget about the hangover… you could possibly kill yourself by drinking too much, or vomiting in your sleep once the effects of the energy drink is over. Vomiting in your sleep could possibly kill you or cause some seriously health issues.

If you are going to be drinking Energy Drinks, make sure you understand the risks involved. Drink energy drinks in moderation, and never mix energy drinks with alcohol.
